About
I am a materials scientist by training, a teacher by heart, and a storyteller by necessity. My journey began in a remote farming village in the Swat valley of Pakistan, and led, improbably, to a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. I now live in Sheffield, where I work as a materials scientist.
In everything I thought I knew about my life, an acoustic neuroma was not part of the plan. After my diagnosis, writing became both therapy and purpose. What began as a way of making sense of the experience grew into two books: Whispers Through The Fog, a memoir of the journey through a brain tumour, and The Acoustic Neuroma Handbook, the practical guide I wish I had been handed on the day of my diagnosis.
I continue to write about life with an acoustic neuroma here on this site, and I run a Facebook group where readers and people affected by the condition connect with one another. In everything I write, I am exploring the quiet strength found in adversity and the healing power of words.
If you would like to get in touch, the Connect page is the best way to reach me.
